Two kinds of boat, six trips
Every trip leaves from the same marina. What changes is the boat. On our own motorboat the trip is private, or in a very small group: a cruise around the bay, dolphins at first light, low evening light, or the fishing grounds of the gulf.
On the catamaran and the pirate boat, the trip is shared with other passengers, lasts 2 h 30, and costs considerably less. Atmosphere wins over privacy, which is exactly right for a first time, or with children.
Either way, the skipper picks the route from the day's weather and finds the calmest water. One honest note on dolphins: we see them often, not every time. Anyone promising a guaranteed sighting is selling you something they do not control.
Dolphin watching
Bottlenose dolphins and common dolphins can be spotted off the coast of the gulf. We set off to look for them at daybreak.
