A boat at anchor in turquoise waters near Hammamet

A boat trip in Hammamet

Two hours out to sea, a stop for a swim, and a view of the medina from the sea.

Hammamet Bay, on the sea side

From the beach, you can only see part of Hammamet. The rest can be explored by boat: the medina's ramparts plunging into the water, the long curve of sand stretching as far as Yasmine, and that distinctive colour the gulf takes on when the seabed changes from sand to seagrass beds.

Our boat trip is the simplest outing on the programme, and the one we recommend for first-time visitors on board. You board at the port Yasmine Hammamet; the captain charts a course based on the day's weather, and all you have to do is enjoy yourself on deck.

How's the walk going?

We set off from the jetty at the agreed time, followed by a five-minute safety briefing, then head out of the harbour under engine power. We first sail along the coast towards the old town, passing in front of the kasbah, before heading for a sheltered anchorage. The exact location depends on the wind: the skipper always chooses the calmest and clearest waters of the day.

Whilst at anchor, the swimming ladder is in the water. Allow 40 to 50 minutes for swimming on a two-hour trip, and longer on a half-day trip. Diving masks and snorkels are on board, help yourselves. The return journey is a leisurely one along the beach, often as the light begins to fade.

Frequently asked questions

How many people can board?

The boat is certified to carry 12 passengers in addition to the crew. If there are more than that, we can arrange two departures or a rotation on the same day.

Can we bring our own food and drink?

Yes, no problem. There's a cool box on board to keep your drinks cool. Just one request: please don't bring any glassware on deck, for safety reasons.

Is this outing suitable for children?

Yes, children's lifejackets are available on board and the boat is moored in a calm area. Children remain the responsibility of their parents whilst swimming.

What happens in the event of bad weather?

If the skipper considers the trip to be impossible, we will first offer to reschedule it. If none of the alternative dates suit you, the deposit will be refunded in full.
